I had handed over my cover and contents page for it to be assessed and to receive feedback for it. I had gotten two different sheets back; one from other students, and one from my teacher. The two said the following: ~
1st sheet:
Understanding of conventions of layout and page design: "Red text near title should be lower down and a different colour. Bring the title forward, can't really see the purple bottom bit."
Appropriately integrating illustration and text: "Content page text Same size images. More images? Dot after the numbers on content page."
Framing shot: "We like the framing."
Selecting mise an scene (colour, figure, lighting, props, setting.): "Lighting is good, looks like a real photo shoot. Props are good. Not edited over the title?"
Manipulating images (Cropping, re-sizing etc): "Re-size image of Shannon."
Accurate use of language and register: "Looks 'magaziney'"
Pages are clearly appropriate for magazine genre and readership: "Yes - good slang."
Awareness of need for variety in fonts and text size: "Variety of fonts and colours - yes and size. Capital 'U' in the title maybe too dim."
2nd sheet:
Understanding of conventions of layout and page design: "Yes, good combination of elements but cover image should be more dominant." (Level 3)
Appropriately integrating illustration and text: "Red against guitar neck not working. Some other words lost."
Framing shot: "Move 'Issue NO.' and 'Date' to the very top." (Level 2)
Selecting mise an scene (colour, figure, lighting, props, setting.): "All good and appropriate." (Level 3)
Manipulating images (Cropping, re-sizing etc): "This shows skill." (Level 3)
Accurate use of language and register: "Appropriate wording and punctuation. 'Must Have Music Christmas Presents..." (Level 3)
Pages are clearly appropriate for magazine genre and readership: "Clearly shows style of cover." (Level 3)
Awareness of need for variety in fonts and text size: "Move difference between heading and sub-headings. Good font choice for title - not sure about shading?"
Overall comment: "Move contrast in font sizes (Main cover lines big, lesser details smaller) and bring Gemma's images to be more dominant."
Some comments for the contents page may not be carried out, as the page is yet not complete. I will make the shading highlight in the top right corner of the front cover less visible, and bring the title over Gemma's head. I will have to change some of the fonts as well, as some of the words get lost with the colour contrast in with the photo I have used. I will move the Issue NO. and date to the top of the page. For the contents page, I must get the details within the contents all the same font and size, so it all matches.

The articles include: 'Meet you IDOL! : Competition to win a chance to meet any Pop Star!', 'Uh-Oh! Who's hurt this time? Find out inside..', 'Must have Christmas Presents for 2012', 'Who's No. 1 this week?! Find out INSIDE!' And the main one is in bold red, with the title 'Drew Taylor is in the Building!' and the sub story is 'The country pop gal is back! First Drafts PhotoShop
This is the first draft of the front cover: ~
I will start to add the main 'headline' as well as litte sub stories.
The photo below is the second draft of the front cover that I'll use.
The photo below is the final edit. What I have changed, is the title and font, I also have gotten rid of some of the text as it's too wordy. The musical note is also gone.
I had started my contents page on the 06/12/2012, but sadly I haven't gotten far in the first two hours, as one was spent planning it, and the other, Photoshop decided to not work so i couldn't start it in any way. I will try again later.
I was able to fix it, and now I am starting to edit my contents page.
This is a print screen of the contents page as its being developed.
So far the news has been added in. I am now working on the feautures part. I have already added one photo. This photo is for the main article.
This is the next print screen of the contents page.
Changes so far are adding in the headlines and stories including within the magazine, as well as one caption to go with the photo included.
I have now added the 'Editor's note' to the bottom corner of the page. I now need to add a few more photos with the articles on the right hand side.
Due to the fact that I have not got PhotoShop at home, I was unable to work on my Print Production over the weekend. Also, my other lesson I am now behind, so I have been more focused on that lesson. I will need to find a balance between the two, as I need PhotoShop as well as a lot of time to work on the two lessons.

Unit G321: Foundation Portfolio
Main Task.
Research and Planning:~
Research: ~
This will be one of the photos to use in the double page spread.
This is the rough plan photos of the magazine on paper. ~ (They will be soon updated with Photoshop)
Research and Planning:~
Research: ~
- The initial idea is to create music magazine, aimed towards teenagers whom are more fond of pop music.
- The magazine 'Q' has been voted the best pop magazine, so I will try and adapt a similar layout as this kind of magazine. The magazine includes top charts, latest albums/hits questionnaires as well as other media information such as new films and DVD's.
- Most magazines for music tends to have it's large logo in a top corner, but had been over lapped by an artist photo of who's included in the magazine, as well as the main title for the week's issue. The magazine also uses the same colour scheme throughout.
Planning: ~
- I will call my magazine idea 'Ultraviolet' after one of my favourite songs.
- Like 'Q' I will take a photo of a made up artist (A friend ~ Gemma Crane) and have it the front cover to show she will feature in the double page spread.
- The layout itself for the front cover will be simple, will small headlines around the main photo, and one big one going across it, showing the 'main story'.
- The layout, logo and/or title will be created on Photoshop before being brought together.
- Inside will be the contents page. On the page directly on the back on the front cover will be an add for a made up perfume.
- The contents will be simple and modern, to attract the teenage readers.
- Small photos that would be included within the magazine will be around the contents, will some quotes from the page.
- The page set up will be going down the side of the page.
- I will use my own Photos for the main story.
- The double page spread will be directly after the contents, and will include one large photo of the model used, will one or two quotes from the text enlarged, and found on this page.
- The other will be the story. It will be question based, so it will look like I have actually interviewed a real pop star. The story will include small sub-stories.
- I will try also to add one more page of the 'pop-star' behind it.
- Other pages may include questionnaires, contests etc.
After slightly editing this photo in the near future, I will use this as the front cover.
